Active Exercise Therapy

Rehabilitation takes place after injury or surgery. Active exercise therapy is the one therapy which has been shown to be effective in almost every pain condition from low back pain to sports injuries. Rehabilitation works by restoring function to the individual muscles as well as entire movements which become imbalance after injury. As function is restored, stress is removed from tissues & pain deminishes.

Pre-habilitation is used to prevent future risk of injury or prepare a patient for surgery. Physical exam findings identify 'weak links' in strength, mobility, balance, or general movement problems which may predispose you to injury. Corrective exercises are then prescribed to gradually return your body to optimal shape & function, thus reducing injury risk. This can also help patients recover faster after surgery when done prior to their procedure.

A Kinesiologist is a someone with at least a bachelor's degree in Kinesiology (the study of human movement). A Kinesiologist in a rehab setting is someone who designs specific exercise programs to restore a patient's disabilities due to an injury.

Chiropractors & Strength and Conditioning Specialists also specialize in the prevention & treatment of injuries through exercise.

The above video demonstrates a lower limb & hip exercise designed to improve lower body function in efforts to reduce stress and prevent injury to the hips, knees, & ankles.
